NOOK devices are not that hard to hack. We have seen it get done many times in the past. The new NOOK HD+ seems to have been rooted as well. A series of videos showing a rooted NOOK HD+ running Google PlayStore have been uploaded to YouTube. That is exciting if you have bought one of these tablets to use third-party Android apps on it.
It is possible to stop future OTA updates with SQLite (according to the presenter). With this hack, you will be able to download content from Google on your NOOK device. You do want to be aware of the risks before rooting and hacking your tablet. But considering how limited NOOKs are without the Google Play Store, this is a risk worth taking.
