Addressing Kindle DX Conspiracy Theory

Kindle DX: Amazon's 9.7" Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation)

I don’t in general like to address any conspiracy theories when it comes to gadgets or anything else for that matter. No matter what the situation, you can always find folks who get a pleasure out of coming up with wild stories and speculations. The same concept applies to Kindle DX. As you know, Amazon is releasing Kindle DX on June 10th but a whole lot of folks have been excited about the new device due to its support for PDF and of course the bigger screen. But there have been some wild discussions about how Amazon is marketing Kindle DX. If you log on to Kindle DX’s page on Amazon.com, you are going to see the following message:

Pre-orders placed prior to June 5th will begin shipping on June 10th. New pre-orders will be prioritized on a first come, first served basis. Pre-order today and your Kindle DX will ship in approximately 7 to 10 days.

Now this is not a controversial statement. Amazon is trying to sell more Kindles, which is why it’s encouraging folks to get their Kindles today. But a lot of people have been talking about how Amazon is using fear tactics to force its customers’ hands. After all, if you have heard about how long it took Amazon to ship Kindle 1.0, you may fear you may have to wait a while if you don’t order your Kindle DX right away. That may very well be the case, but I don’t believe there would be anything malicious behind it.

Amazon did miscalculate big time with Kindle 1.0, and to its credit Kindle 2.0 launch was much smoother. Kindle DX is also in demand which means Amazon can indeed run out of units. But, you’ll not have to wait a few months to get your Kindle DX. Besides, you should never buy a gadget becasue it may be going out of stock soon. You should buy it to address your needs! Let’s hope Kindle conspiracy theorists find better things to do with their time.
