2013: iPad Dominated U.S. Tablet Sales

We have been waiting for years to see whether any company can beat Apple in its game. Apple is simply making a ton of iPhone and iPad sales every year. 2013 was not different. Data from the NPD Group suggests that Apple is continuing to dominate the tablet PC market. Interestingly enough, Android and Windows tablets are slowly catching up in market share.

Tablet sales captured more than 22% of all personal computing device sales sold through the commercial channel through November, Windows tablet sales nearly tripled off a very small base, and Android tablet sales grew more than 160%. Apple iPad sales accounted for 59% of the volume in the tablet market.

The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 are both great devices. Apple will most likely be fine in this market for a few years. The company will need to get serious about wearable computing and should think about adding new product categories, since this lead is not going to last forever.
