E-books readers have made it much easier for folks to rely replace paper books with e-books for their reading needs. Devices such as the Kindle, iPad, and NOOK are all compact and capable of carrying thousands of e-books. These devices do get some getting used to for folks who are just getting started with digital books. Technologies such as the Smart E-book System aim to make the digital reading experience more realistic for everyone.
The Smart E-book System incorporates the bezel of touchscreen devices. E-reader owners can flip through pages by moving their fingers from the bezel to the touchscreen area. They can also use a finger to bookmark pages, flip them, and cross references multiple pages. At this point, we don’t know whether there is any interest for the KAIST technology from major e-reader manufacturers. But it is an exciting technology nonetheless.
