NOOK Color To Get Android 2.2 and App Market Soon?

NOOK Color is going to get a tad bit better in a matter of weeks. According to multiple sources, B&N is preparing to update NOOK Color devices with Android 2.2 (Froyo). The initial report by Engadget was quite exciting as it suggested that Nook could get access to Android Market apps. Unfortunately, B&N squashed those rumors quickly. Nook Color will be getting a market, but it won’t be Android Market. NOOK Color will have its own limited app market (unless you are willing to hack your device).

As reported by Smartphone Magazine, the Android Froyo update for NOOK will address the device’s performance and battery issues. It is expected to launch in January, but the date is not set in stone. Considering that B&N is not willing to enable the full Android Market on NOOK devices, fans may be better off rooting their devices to get around some of the restrictions that have been put on them.
