Nintendo 3DS: a Mini E-reader?

Nintendo has manufactured some of the most innovative products in the past few years. The company is not expected to stop anytime soon. The new Wii and Nintendo 3DS are two exciting devices that should give gamers plenty to be excited about. But is the company really interested in getting in the e-reader business? While that is highly doubtful, Nintendo is toying with the idea of adding e-reader functionality to its gaming devices such as Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo 3DS is a smart Wi-Fi device. It automatically connects with Wi-Fi hotspots and downloads information. Technically, Nintendo can use this capability to provide 3DS owners with the latest newspapers or local information. But do not expect this device to challenge Kindle or iPad anytime soon.

I am not sold on the whole idea of turning every tablet or gaming device into an e-reader. It is true that people want to have options when carrying these types of gadgets these days. The iPad is too distracting as it is. Can you imagine someone actually getting any reading done using a mobile gaming device?  That’s why gadgets such as Kindle will continue to stay popular, especially if the prices continue to come down.

The Internet and all the new technologies (distractions) have been making it a bit difficult for a lot of people to do some “deep” reading. I am not sure these shiny new gadgets can reverse that trend.
