Kindle Paperwhite Gets Jailbroken

The Kindle Fire HD is not the only device hackers are interested in hacking. The Kindle Paperwhite may be a limited device as a tablet but hackers have already jailbroken it. The exploit is very similar to the one that was pulled off for the Kindle Touch. You just need to upload a certain file to the root directory of the Kindle Paperwhite to get started with the process.

Once you have jailbroken your Kindle Paperwhite, you will be able to display different information like the weather on your device. You will also be able to hook the Kindle up to a Raspberry Pi for more fun. What could go wrong? You might brick your device if you fail to follow the instructions. As the hacker explains:

The Jailbreak for 5.1.2 firmware works with the Paperwhite 5.2.0 firmware.

While we don’t exactly endorse jailbreaking gadgets, if you enjoy these types of projects, hacking your Kindle Paperwhite is well worth doing. Just know the risks before getting started.
