Kindle 2.5 Firmware Update On Its Way

We may not be getting Kindle 3, at least until August, but the next best thing, Kindle 2.5 upgrade, is up for download. Kindle 2.5 makes it possible for Kindle owners to share their favorite passages on Facebook and Twitter. Amazon may be a bit late with this update but it’s finally here:

We’re excited to announce that a new, free software update is now available for Kindle and will be automatically delivered to your device. We’ll be rolling out this update wirelessly to Kindle devices over the next few weeks. There’s nothing you need to do other than keep your wireless turned on. If you don’t have wireless connectivity or if you want to enjoy the new features sooner, you can download the software update to your computer and simply follow the instructions:

This update will give you access to more fonts and adds a layer of security to protect your information on your device (especially helpful if your device is stolen). Of course, it will have the highly controversial “Popular Highlights” feature installed on your Kindle. Kindle 2.5 is not a major upgrade but it does give us Kindle fans something to chew on until August.
