We have been waiting for quite some time to get our hands on an e-book reader with color E-ink technology on-board. Tablets such as iPad and XOOM are more than capable of displaying books in full color. But they offer a similar reading experience to laptops. Ectaco plans to bring a color E-ink e-reader to the market some time around December. Jetbook Color E-reader will have a 9.7 inch, 600 x 800 pixel E Ink display with touchscreen technology.
Jetbook Color eReader seems to be a decent alternative to Kindle DX. As The Digital Reader reported, the device will be available for $349 in the U.S. It does seem that Jetbook Color will run a few applications targeting the academic world. While we do not expect Jetbook Color to topple Kindle DX, it should encourage Amazon to release a much better Kindle DX in the future.
Kindle DX may not be as popular as its smaller sibling. At the same time, it has the potential to be much greater with a touchscreen color E-ink display and a price drop. Amazon’s focus at the moment seems to be on challenging the iPad in the tablet world though.
