E-ink Smartphone Running Android Coming?

Many of us are familiar with E-ink displays and other products due to the fact that some of them are used on our e-readers. Devices such as the Kindle and NOOK still use those screens. But E-ink products can be used in watches, smartphones, and other devices. The Chinese e-reader company Onyx seems to be examining the idea of bringing an E-ink Android smartphone to the market.

This is a prototype at this point. There is no name for it. But the video above does show how well the display works under natural sunlight. The battery life is quite impressive too. The prototype can go for up to 1 months per charge. This is a plastic-based E-ink screen, so it will be pretty durable.

Will we see E-ink smartphones in the future? The idea could work since many folks would love to be able to get days of battery life on their smartphones. The screen quality in the above video looks pretty decent too. The price will always be a factor as well. This is not the only product idea that relies on an E-ink screen. We have heard about dual-sided E-ink gadgets in the past. No word on when any of these will be released.
