Those who have been following Amazon’s every move in the past few months probably realize that Amazon has been preparing to launch something big. The company has been introducing new services and features on Amazon.com on a consistent basis. Many experts now believe that Amazon will indeed introduce a tablet to challenge Apple iPad. According to the latest rumor, Amazon has ordered 800,000 touch-screen units with maker Quanta Computer.

Without a doubt, Amazon’s tablet will run Android OS. There is no reason for Amazon to try a different platform considering the amount of resources it has invested in developing its Android app store. Interestingly enough, Kindle tablet is rumored to use Fringe Field Switching LCD technology (which is perfect for viewing from side angles).

It will be interesting to see how Amazon prices this tablet. Will it be as affordable as NOOK color or as expensive as Xoom? Regardless, if there is a company that can compete with Apple in the tablet market, Amazon is it.
