Case Freezes Up Kindle 3?

In the past few weeks, many of you have written to us about some of the issues that you have experienced with your Amazon Kindle. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to figure out why Kindles freeze. As it turns out, certain Kindle cases can be partially responsible for these issues. As reported by CNET, it seems some non-lighted Kindle covers can cause Kindles to freeze. Here is what a customer had to say about this cover:
This product caused my Kindle to freeze almost every time it went into sleep mode. Would not turn on until plugged into a charger. Completely broken product,
said Gober. User Mac had similar issues with this case:
I’m having the same freeze-up problem since I received the cover and put it on a couple of days ago. In the short time with the cover on, it appears to me that it only freezes when the cover is strapped closed; it has not yet frozen while the cover was open and folded back. I’ve had the Kindle itself for about 6 weeks with no problems until now,
The more expensive version of this case (with light) seems to work fine though. Apparently, Amazon is looking into this issue:
There have been some forum discussions regarding the non-lighted Kindle cover, and our engineering team is looking into this… Regardless, if anyone is having any problem with an Amazon-manufactured Kindle cover, please contact us at kindle-response@amazon.com, and we will be pleased to replace it for free or accept a return for a full refund, no matter when the cover was purchased.
Amazon should have probably listened to its customers when these issues started popping up in its forums. The company has the best customer service team around, so Kindle owners have always had the option to send their cases back. The trouble is Amazon should probably stop selling these cases altogether until these issues are resolved. These issues demonstrate how easy it is for a device such as Kindle to start malfunctioning with the wrong accessories. So pick them wisely.
