More Apple Kindle Killer Rumors

In general, I am not a big fan of discussing rumors. Rumors rarely turn out to be true, and discussing them is generally a waste of time. With Apple, there is always some truth to rumors. I have been following the company for years, and every-time you hear a rumor about its plans, you expect something big to happen. We have been hearing a lot about an Apple Kindle killer. A media-pad that will not only compete with Kindle but will go beyond anything Amazon Kindle or other readers have to other. In fact, this device seems to be an iPhone XL. Here is what Apple Insider had to offer about this new product:

More specifically, the analyst said these investments will likely culminate with the launch of a touch-screen tablet with a display somewhere between 7- and 10-inches at a special event sometime in the first half of 2010… For his part, the analyst believes the device will end up retailing somewhere in the range of $500 – $700, bridging the gap between the $399 iPod touch and the $999 MacBook.

I personally don’t believe that Apple is working on an e-book reader per se. Apple never works on one-trick pony devices. But you can imagine some potential Kindle buyers taking their chance with Apple’s media-pads. And if Apple brings its iPhone applications to this new media-pad, you are going to get a wealth of tools to choose from to get more reading done on your device. Interestingly enough, I do believe that Amazon Kindle for iPhone will make it to this media-pad. So you’ll most likely be able to read Amazon books on your device.

Ultimately, I don’t believe Amazon is that concerned about Apple’s new product. While Amazon has invested a lot of money to make its Kindle line successful, it’s sole focus is not on the hardware side of things. Amazon’s going to make a lot of money from the books its going to sell and lets not forget about all the new customers that it will add in the upcoming months. When you think about it, Amazon doesn’t have a whole lot to complain about.

Your decide: should Amazon be worried about Apple’s secret gadget?
