Amazon to Sell 5M Kindle Fire in Q4?

Since Amazon announced Kindle Fire a while back, experts have been wondering how well the company will do during the holiday shopping season. The tablet will officially go on sale in November. The sale is expected to be quite strong. Some experts are already predicting Kindle Fire will be a huge hit with shoppers. Kindle Fire has its own Android interface that differentiates it from other Android tablets. It costs under $200 which helps. It will be very attractive to people who spend a lot of money buying things from Amazon as well.

Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw has told CNET that Amazon could sell as many as 5m Kindle Fire units this quarter:

Checks indicate that they could ship upwards of 5 million units in the December quarter, which is just shy of half of Apple’s volume

Amazon’s first tablet is not a premium tablet like Apple iPad. At the same time, it makes a great media consumption device. Amazon has a strong brand and a ton of experience from its Kindle project to reach respectable results with its new tablet. The big question is whether Amazon will have enough inventory to satisfy demand for Kindle Fire. Just like any other new device, Kindle Fire will have its software and hardware issues. Those could turn some people off as well. This should serve as a good experience for Amazon as it prepares to release a premium tablet in 2012.
