Barnes & Noble Adds Up Another Android E-Reader

Android is going to play a huge role in the e-book reader market for the foreseeable future. Alex Reader and B&N Nook are already taking advantage of this exciting new platform. So is Pandigital Novel Reader. Novel Reader features a 7 inch color screen and WiFi capability. Pandigital has partnered with B&N to bring B&N’s e-book store to its reader. The device is expected to sell for around $199.

The strategy is clear here. Pandigital Novel offers the color screen feature that many e-reader fans have been craving for, but it does not require you to part ways with $500 of your hard-earned money. The partnership with B&N is a no-brainer move as no e-reader can succeed these days without an e-book store.

Here is a run down of what Novel will have to offer:

  • 7″ Full Color 800 x 600 Touch Screen
  • Built in WiFi connectivity
  • Expandable – up to 32GB on SD/MMC
  • Full color photo viewer
  • Night & day reading mode
  • 6 hours of reading on a single charge

I would not call this device a Kindle killer by any means. The device is going to be priced competitively, so it will have its fans. At the same time, 6 hours of reading time per charge is unacceptable in these days. Even iPad offers more than that. The device has some merits, and its use of Android is a big plus. But you may be better off waiting for Nook 2.
