Amazon Tablets Coming In September?

Jeff Bezos has been quite clear about what he thinks of Apple iPad. It is a great device but is not a challenger to Kindle since these are two very different products, right? That is not going to stop Amazon from bringing its own tablets to the market. We have known for a while that Amazon plans to bring dual and quad core tablets. Thanks to Digitimes, we now know when Amazon tablets may hit the market:

Amazon is poised to step into tablet PCs and will launch models as son as August-September, with targeted global sales of four million units for 2011, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

These tablets will have Texas Instruments processors and Wintek’s touch panels. They will offer movie streaming service just like the one available to existing Amazon Prime owners. Amazon is slowly but surely improving its movie streaming service. Every piece is falling into place for Amazon to finally bring its tablets to the market.

It will be interesting to see what Amazon does with its E-ink e-reader. Will it release a new Kindle model this year to combat the 2nd generation NOOK? That remains to be seen.
