Amazon Starts Push For Kindle Ahead of the Holiday Season

If you have ever wondered why Amazon will continue to dominate the e-book reader market for the foreseeable future, you don’t have to look past Amazon’s latest Kindle creative to realize that. It’s true that Nook and Sony Reader are both very capable and can push Amazon Kindle in the long run, but there are a lot of folks out there who care more about being able to buy from their favorite store than having access to a colorful LCD display. Amazon has been providing the lowest prices on all kinds of items for a few years now. There may be exceptions here, but in a lot of items, Amazon offers the best deals.

Many people have come to trust Amazon as one of the top places to shop for things. Amazon.com is one of the hottest web properties around. And the company is using this to the full extent to push Amazon Kindle. Amazon Kindle 2 may be a few months old, but that is not going to keep Amazon from pushing it as a must have gadget for the holiday season. I have argued in the past that Amazon may be better off taking a page out of Apple’s book and introduce new changes right before the holiday season. Take the above campaign for instance. Wouldn’t it be nice if Amazon could push a price drop just for the holiday season?

Amazon still has the opportunity to bo0st sales for Kindle DX by offering a discount on that device. The company is still selling the device for $489. That is too high of a price for the average Joe. A Kindle DX price drop can generate even more buzz around Amazon Kindle product line and help Amazon sell more Kindle 2.0 units as well. I am sure Amazon.com’s marketing and product development teams have a clear idea what it takes to sell more units during the holiday season, but one should not discount the effect that the introduction of Nook has had on Amazon. The company rushed to lower its prices ahead of Nook’s launch to keep its momentum going. Amazon may not be ready for another price drop, but it wouldn’t hurt to give a limited time discount or flexible financing to new customers for the holiday season. Amazon is ahead of the game in the e-book reader market, but that doesn’t mean it should stop pushing for more.

Your take: should Amazon offer yet another price drop for the holiday shopping season?
