Fujitsu’s UI: Interact with Real World Objects Using Touch

Touchscreen devices are pretty popular these days. You are going to need touch-capable displays to be able to interact with your gadgets. Fujitsu’s new UI system changes that. It has a touchscreen-like interface but you get to interact with real-world objects. The technology does not require any special hardware but just an ordinary webcam plus a commercial projector.
The idea here is simple: this technology lets you import your data from your documents by selecting the necessary parts using your fingers:
Until now, gesturing has often been used to operate PCs and other devices. But with this interface, we’re not operating a PC, but touching actual objects directly, and combining them with ICT equipment.
The system is designed not to react when you make ordinary motions on a table. It can be operated when you point with one finger. What this means is, the system serves as an interface combining analog operations and digital devices.
The potential for such a technology is immense. You will have to wait till 2014 to get your hands on a commercial version of this system though.
