Microsoft Sold 1.5M Surface Tablets Already?

Microsoft had high plans for the Surface family. But it has not managed to sell as many units as some had expected. Microsoft has been quiet on how many Surface tablets it has sold to date. According to inside sources, a total of 1.5m Surface tablets have been sold to date. Out of that 1.5m, 400k happened to be Surface Pro tablets.

Make no mistake about it. These numbers are disastrous for Microsoft if true. Microsoft has a lot of work to do to make its tablets attractive to consumers. At this point, it is not clear what Microsoft can do to make Surface more attractive (other than dropping its price by a couple of hundred dollars). Windows 8 is not making consumers excited either.
