B&N Offering TouchPads for $101, Worth It?

HP Touchpad is not a new tablet by any means. But it has quickly become one of the most affordable e-book readers around. The device was selling for as low as $499 just a few days ago. HP partners decided to drop their prices dramatically after the company announced it was getting out of the hardware business in the tablet market. B&N is one of many companies that are stuck with a large inventory of HP Touchpads. Just like MacMall and many other retailers, B&N is now offering these tablets for around $100.

Many have been thinking about investing in these cheap tablets. The future of WebOS is not clear at this point. But all signs point to the fact that HP won’t be killing it. There is a good chance the platform will be licensed and continue to live on. HP is more interested in the software business at this point. It makes no sense for HP to kill WebOS just now. Besides, these tablets will work for a couple of years and can probably be hacked to run Android. Considering that these used to be as expensive as iPad and are now cheaper than a Kindle, investing in them does not sound like a bad idea.
