Many of us had to pay $400 or more to get our hands on a decent e-reader only a couple of years ago. With the launch of Kindle Fire, more companies are reducing prices on their tablets. Many new e-readers are now being offered for around $200, which is encouraging to see. Viewsonic is the latest company to offer a $200 Android tablet / e-reader. ViewPad 7e is an Android 2.3 tablet with a 1 GHz processor inside. It has a 7 inch display with 800×600 resolution.

ViewPad 7e offers support for Adobe Flash. It has 2 cameras ( a 3-megapixel camera, a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera) and plenty of pre-loaded applications. The device has 4 GB internal storage. You can always enhance its capacity with a microSD card as spacious as 32 GB card. The battery life does leave a lot to be desired. Viewsonic promises 5 hours of battery life which is not great at all.

$200 Android tablets are on the rise. In these tough economic conditions, not everyone will be ready to spend $500 on an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. Standard e-book readers don’t replace tablets for most users. But it seems Kindle Fire will be the device to beat among cheap tablets this year. Amazon has managed to successfully differentiate itself from other competitors in this segment of the market for now.

Are you impressed with ViewPad 7e?
