The Count down to Kindle 2.0 Begins

The moment we have all been waiting for could be finally upon us. After playing cat and mouse with the media for months, Amazon has finally given an indication that Kindle 2.0 may be released soon. Apparently, an e-mail was sent to the media discussing a program by Jeff Bezos on February 9th. While all of this is still speculation, this whole issue brings up interesting challenges for Amazon.

For one, there are still folks who are waiting to receive Kindles that they ordered weeks ago. How is Amazon going to deal with these folks? Are they going to receive Kindle 2.0 in the mail instead? And let’s not forget about a $100-200 Kindle 1.0 price cut that we were promised back in October. Will Amazon discontinue Kindle 1.0 or just reduce its price to get Kindle in more hands?

Finally, what is going to happen to Kindle replacement policy. Will Amazon still provide folks with the opportunity to send their damaged Kindle 1.0 in and get a replacement? If so, will Amazon allow folks to get Kindle 2.0 for that replacement fee?

Either way, we won’t know for sure about Amazon’s plans until they actually start talking about it. Amazon has been somewhat secretive about the Kindle line, but all is expected to be revealed on February 9th. Let’s hope for some good news!
