Kindle gets 62% of U.S. e-reader usage?

Amazon may have had a lot of success with the Kindle Fire but the company is in a great position in the e-reader market too. Amazon Kindles are responsible for 62% of U.S. e-reader usage. That is according to a report by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. NOOK and Sony Reader are behind Amazon Kindle with 22% and 2% of the share.

Things are quite different in the tablet market. The iPad still has a very comfortable lead in this market. But the Kindle Fire has managed to reach the second position in a short few months. Thankfully for Amazon Kindle fans, Amazon intends to bring new Kindle e-reader and tablets to the market this year. For starters, new E-ink Kindles are expected to have a front-lid display. The Kindle Fire 2, which will be released later this year, is expected to have a 8.9 inch display.

Amazon may not make as much money from Kindle Fires as Apple does with iPads. But it is expected to continue being very involved in both of these markets. It will be interesting to see how far Amazon can go in the tablet PC market with its new Kindle Fires.
