There has been a lot of speculation about Apple’s upcoming announcement in New York City. So far we know that it will be about digital textbooks. According to AppleInsider, Apple will unveil a new digital textbook project codenamed “Bliss” that is inspired by Al Gore’s Our Choice app for iOS. Roger Rosner, Apple’s vice president of development for iWork has been overseeing the project. For those of you not familiar with “Our Choice,” it is a highly interactive book for the iOS platform.

Apple is expected to use web technologies to enhance ebooks. Amazon has already shown how it is done with its KF8 format. Apple is probably taking a similar approach to this challenge. Rumors are suggesting that Apple plans to introduce new tools to enable publishers to develop interactive textbooks more conveniently.

The details of this project are expected to be unveiled on Thursday at 10 AM Eastern. These are truly exciting times for publishers and independent authors.
