Is Kindle for Blackberry Close?

Product Details

A few weeks ago, Amazon announced that it was going to take Kindle to as many platforms as possible in the upcoming months. We have already seen Kindle for PC and Kindle for iPhone. Amazon did also promise us a Mac app, which we still have not seen. But we could be getting a Kindle for Blackberry app soon. CIO is reporting that Amazon is planning to release Mac and Blackberry software kits soon. Amazon made the update to Kindle’s exclusive page on the site.

So what does the word “soon” really mean here? We could see these apps as early as Christmas, but Amazon could be picking the right date and time to release these updates. Let’s not forget that Plastic Logic will be introducing its own e-book reader to the market early January. So Amazon could opt to release these new apps then to get some media coverage at the expensive of new e-book readers that are making their waves at CES. It’d be interesting to see whether Amazon is willing to offer an app for Android platform. Considering that Nook and a few upcoming e-book readers take advantage of this platform, we may have to wait a while before we see Amazon touch that platform. But I suspect we could see it happen if more powerful Android phones make it to the market.

Your take: should Amazon target Nook and the Android platform with Kindle for Android app?
