Gembird Launching a 9.7 Inch E-ink Reader / e-Paper Printer

Those of you who have been following this site for a while have probably realized that I am a big fan of 9+ inch E-ink devices. They are perfect for doing researching and reading textbooks in general. I was glad when Amazon decided to bring the Kindle DX back. It is not the only 9.7 inch E-ink reader around though. In fact, Gembird is launching a 9.7 inch E-ink reader that can function as a printer. Here are the specifications:

  • Display: 9.7-inch E-Ink, 1600 x 1200 pixels
  • CPU: 800 MHz
  • RAM: 256 MB
  • Storage: 4 GB, expandable to up to 32 GB (microSD)
  • OS: Android Gingerbread (2.3.4)
  • Battery: 2350 mAh
  • Price: as low as EUR 399

Just like a regular printer, you can attach this device to your computer and send documents to it. The device sounds decent on paper but we have to question the pricing strategy here. That is a steep price to pay for an e-ink e-reader with a large display. We highly doubt too many folks will pull the trigger to get this.
