Facebook Acquires Push Pop Press

Push Pop Press got a lot of buzz in the media for teaming up with Al Gore on his e-book project “Our Choice.” The goal of the company was to offer dynamic e-books on iPad. Facebook has not only acquired Push Pop Press, but it seems it has killed its plans too. Instead of continuing with its original plan, the Push Pop Press team will now focus on integrating its own technologies into Facebook’s services:

Although Facebook isn’t planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories. With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it’s going to be a great home for Push Pop Press.

Al Gore’s product will remain available for sale with all the profits being donated to The Climate Reality Project. At this point, there are no plans for the team to take on new e-book projects. One has to wonder how these technologies can contribute to what Facebook already has. Push Pop Press has potential. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see how its platform could have helped small publishers.
