Amazon Unveils In-App Purchasing Service

Amazon is finally taking the next step to make its app store competitive with what Apple and Google offer developers. Amazon app developers will now be able to offer in app purchases to fund their operations. The program has been going through several months of testing. The In-App Purchasing API is now available to everyone.

We created the In-App Purchasing API to make it easy for you to increase customer engagement and monetize your apps on Kindle Fire and other Android devices. With the Amazon Appstore for Android In-App Purchasing solution, you can reach customers with existing accounts who have already bought apps, including millions of Kindle Fire customers. Our simple, secure, and trusted 1-Click purchase experience is easy for customers to use, increasing conversion rates for purchases within your app.

The 70-30 split scheme works for in-app purchases as well. Amazon reserves the right to discount apps but the developers will earn 70 percent of the list price.

The Amazon Appstore may still be a work in progress. But if the company is great in anything, it is selling things. Adding in-app purchasing will allow Amazon developers to make even more money from their apps. It should make the store even more attractive to Android developers.
