Amazon To Sell Millions of Tablets?

Apple has been dominating the tablet market with the iPad. Many companies have tried and failed to properly challenge the device so far. Amazon has slowly put together various pieces of the puzzle to create an ecosystem capable of challenging that of Apple’s. The company is expected to bring a tablet to the market in the upcoming months. Analysts suggest that Amazon could sell as many as 5M tablets in just a short few months.

Instead of trying to out-Apple Apple, Amazon is going to introduce a budget tablet with Android on-board. Amazon is known for developing thin devices. Its tablet probably won’t be any different. If we learned something from the TouchPad debacle, it is the fact that people are willing to invest in cheap tablets. Amazon’s tablet won’t be as cheap as the $99 TouchPad but will most likely challenge NOOK Color in the pricing department.

It will be interesting to see how Amazon deals with Android fans who are getting used to having the option to hack their devices to run all kinds of cool software on them. Amazon Kindle is not exactly an open platform. Amazon will most likely go out of its way to control what users can/can’t do on their devices.

Amazon is still expected to introduce Kindle 4 in the near future. It is not getting out of the e-reader business anytime soon. It will be interesting to see whether there will be a future for Kindle DX.
