We have heard a lot of rumors about the Kindle phone already. Amazon has already achieved a lot of success with the Kindle Fire. As Bloomberg is reporting, Amazon is planning to expand its hardware business with a smartphone of its own. Like the Kindle Fire line, Amazon’s phone will run a highly customized version of Android, optimized for content consumers.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire project has been a success even though the company is not making a lot of money from selling hardware. Amazon will not only release new Kindle Fire tablets this year but is preparing a handset that could go for $249 with 6 months of 4g LTE data.

if Amazon is planning to enter smartphone segment, it has to come up with something disruptive at least in terms of providing more value to the consumers and differentiating itself,

Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Shah told BGR. By giving away free data, Amazon will get to attract and lock customers in. The exact release date for the Kindle phone is not known at this time.
