Amazon Killing Active Content Apps? Maybe Not

In the past few hours, we have heard a couple of rumors about Amazon pulling support for Active Content apps for e-ink e-readers. There is no secret that as the time has gone by, Amazon has started focusing more on the Kindle Fire family. But it is still selling E-ink e-readers. Here is what Geekwire.com reported yesterday:

Two developers of third-party apps for Kindle readers say they were informed by Amazon.com representatives this week that the company would be winding down its “Active Content” app developer program for Kindle e-ink devices and would no longer accept any new app submissions.

Amazon has not announced this move so this news was surprising. Adding to the confusion is the fact that Amazon has reached out to Geekwire to claim this is not happening. This could be just a bad rumor at this point. Considering that Amazon will be releasing new E-ink e-readers soon, we will have more information on the future of Kindle Active Content apps soon.
