It would have been really surprising to see any other device top the electronics category on Amazon in the company’s best of 2009 list. Amazon Kindle may not be as “cool” or impressive as some other electronic gadgets on the market, but it has been topping the bestsellers list on Amazon for months. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find the few weeks that the Kindle didn’t top the charts. Not surprisingly, a netbook topped the charts in Computers category.
Not surprisingly, many cool “items” made it to this list. So it’s not hard to see why e-book reader manufacturers are focusing more and more on the looks of their units. We are also hearing a lot of hybrid devices that will be introduced at CES, so future e-book readers could indeed top multiple categories on Amazon (e.g. netbook-reader hybrids). So Que proReader may not be the only fun e-book reader in town at CES show.
Amazon Kindle may have topped the charts in 2009, but the company needs to step up its game in 2010 if it wants to keep its lead in the e-book reader market. Nook may not be a Kindle killer, but better e-book readers are on their way. Amazon needs to deliver and deliver big in 2010.
