Why I am Returning My Kindle Paperwhite

I have to admit. I was very excited about the idea of testing and owning a Kindle Paperwhite. Everyone who has tested it seems to be quite happy with the device. But I was quite disappointed to find out that not every reviewer covers all the glaring issues that the new Kindle has. Let’s make no mistake about it. The device looks quite sleek and has a bright screen. It is faster than my Kindle Touch and content looks great on it. But I found the screen to be quite disappointing.

It took me about 10 minutes to find out the screen was not distributing light evenly (see it for yourself). This is to be expected. Amazon has provided a lot of useful information on how it has accomplished to make the screen on this device work the way it does. But I do have a 1 inch dark line at the bottom of my screen that is simply too distracting. I admit that not everyone will have a problem with that. You could also turn the light off and use your Kindle without any issues. But that’s another story.

The ads are very disappointing as well. The Kindle Paperwhite is not a cheap device. Having ads all over it is certainly not fun. Amazon does not even include an adapter with the package. Some of these issues are not new to Kindle owners. When combined with screen issues and with the audio feature gone, I am not sure the Kindle Paperwhite is worth the money.

The Amazon Kindle family has come a long way over the years. Unfortunately, the new Kindle Paperwhite still has ways to go to become the perfect device for e-reading. While it is sleek, fast, and much improved, I found the uneven lighting on its screen simply too distracting. If you can get over some of the above issues, this Kindle might just work for you.
