Kindle Fire vs. iPad 3: Can Amazon Compete?

The tablet wars have just started. Apple has been dominating the tablet market for a couple of years now. Amazon has changed the game slightly by bringing the Kindle Fire to the market. This tablet is not an iPad killer by any means. It does not have as many fancy bells and whistles like the iPad. At the same time, it costs a whole lot less. Considering that not everyone needs all the features premium tablets offer, Amazon may have a winner on its hands.

There has been a lot of talk suggesting the Kindle Fire could be the next iPad killer. But Apple management may have the right idea here. While the Kindle Fire is priced very competitively and has merit, it does seem to target a very different audience. The device is a content consumption device and not one for more advanced tasks.

Amazon will continue selling Kindle Fires like hot cakes (even though the momentum for the device has slowed down a bit). But the iPad does almost everything better than the Kindle Fire. It will be interesting to see how competitive the Kindle Fire 2 will be against premium tablets of today.
