Will Amazon Drop Kindle's Price Soon?

Amazon has a big announcement for all of us to listen to. It has announced a press conference that will most likely be about the introduction of Kindle 2G. But one has to wonder about the fate of Kindle 1.0 amid this announcement. Amazon’s policy has been clear. They are willing to drop prices when it makes sense. They did not do it for the Christmas holidays. They did not do it for the New Year. And the $40 discount that we got a few months ago is not really a significant price drop.

Will Amazon surprise us all with a $199 Kindle 2G? I hope so. The early indications are that we are looking at a $300 device. Some claim that Kindle 2.0 will be priced at $249, but I won’t believe it until I see it. It’d be interesting to see if Amazon has a plan to reduce prices on a short-term basis to give Kindle sales a boost.

Your take: how should Amazon price Kindle 2G?
