txtr reader

Txtr reader is the latest device that is aiming to challenge Kindle’s supremacy in the ebook market. The whole GPRS/Wi-Fi capabilities make Txtr reader more like a tablet PC than a mere eBook reader. But for what it is worth, it is dubbed as the best eBook reader on the market:

We believe that the Txtr reader will be by far the best eReader out there: We have combined the newest eInk technology with a completely new system architecture and the fastest user interface.

Now, I have not been able to test this device yet (will do as soon as I get my hands on it), but let’s take a look at a few features of this device:

  • High res display: the eInk technology usedon Txtr reader is supposed to be superior to the one used on Kindle. Who wouldn’t like that? I do expect Kindle 2.0 to fill the gap in this area.
  • Long battery life: if this device can last for “weeks” that is an improve on anything I have seen on my Kindle (that’s assuming that by “weeks” they mean more than one week).
  • Built in 3G/GPRS: a true mobile device will always support these technologies so no surprises here.
  • PDF Support: now this is a great feature to have on Kindle. Not sure if we will ever get that, but it’d be nice.
  • Bluetooth: adding bluetooth keyword to your eBook reader? Wow!
  • Integrated 3D accelerometer: oh my!
  • API: now this is something I have been preaching about for months. These guys seem to have done it.

The only negative aspect of owning a Txtr eBook would be the lack of a store as big as Amazon Kindle store. But the Txtr community is growing and the device is PDF friendly. I got to admit. Amazon may have a real rival on their hands. Watch this space for a complete review.
