Will Japan Quake Affect Amazon?

Kindle may be promoted and sold by an American based company. But these tiny devices are not made in America. When large-scale disasters happen around the globe, it could affect the manufacturing partners for companies such as Amazon. Freescale, which happens to be a partner of Amazon, has been hit by the latest events in Japan. Its Sendai facility has closed with employees evacuated already.

A global team is now working 24/7 to assess the impact

Apple and other e-book reader makers have Japanese partners as well. If this disaster continues to get worse (which we pray it won’t), the prices could go up in this side of the world.

SanDisk continues to assess the situation for any potential future impact that may arise from issues related to Japanese infrastructure and the supply chain

At this point, it is tough to assess how this major disaster will affect Amazon, Apple, Toshiba, and Sony. There is not enough information to make accurate predictions here. But it is nice to know that Kindle has helped some people get in touch with their families in these areas:

At the time, I couldn’t make any calls, and my Internet was not restored until late Friday night. During outages I used the Net connection on an Amazon Kindle to get messages to friends and family, as my mobile phone was rendered all but useless.

Have you donated funds to help the people of Japan? Please share how.
