Nook Color may be out of stock for now, but it will soon have even more competitors. Not too many e-readers are shipped with color E-ink screens. Regular LCD-based tablets won’t offer users a Kindle like experience. But they are more than capable of handling colorful content. Archos 70c is one of these tablets. It will have a 7-inch 800 x 480 TFT display and will cost only $149.99, which makes it a cheaper alternative to Nook Color.

Here are Archos 70c’s specifications as published by JR.com:

  • Android 2.1
  • 7″ resistive touch screen with 800 x 480 resolution
  • 600MHz processor
  • 4GB storage with SD slot
  • WiFi support
  • 10-hours of battery life
  • Accelerometer

Archos 70c is expected to offer its owners access to Android Market apps. Archos 70c is not a revolutionary new tablet. It still has the short-comings of most LCD-based e-readers. At the same time, it is even cheaper than Nook Color and can serve as a starting Android device for those new to this platform.
