ASUS To go all out with 3 e-book reader

Forget Apple tablet. ASUS is serious about making a dent in the e-book reader market. Kindle may be king, and Nook may be an exciting device to own. But ASUS is going places with its three pending e-book readers. OLED DR-570, DR-750, and DR-950 are ASUS’ attempt to jump in and start swimming with the sharks in this market. DR570 is the most exciting in the bunch as it will come equipped with a color screen. That’s something Amazon and other companies should have done by now, but price seems to have been a factor. Not for ASUS.

The other two models are your regular e-book readers (monochrome). The good news is that these devices will most likely support open document formats and come with WiFi capability. There is no news on how they will be priced and when they will be released to the market. While I don’t expect ASUS to suddenly become a market leader, I do expect these e-readers to do OK as long as AsusTek prices them right and releases them at the right time. That’s something we will have to wait and see.

Your turn: how much extra would you be willing to pay for a color screen on your next e-book reader?
