Amazon Breaks Record with Kindle

Kindle Wireless

It seems the month of November has gone as well as Amazon thought it’d go. At least as far as the Kindle is concerned. Amazon has been pushing Kindle all over the place on Amazon.com. The Kindle has topped numerous lists such as Amazon’s best sellers, Amazon most gifted , and the most wished for lists. So it’s no surprise to see Amazon do well with Kindle during the holiday shopping season. According to Amazon, it was a record breaking month, but we still don’t get any real sales data, so it’s tough to say how well Amazon has been doing.

Here is how Amazon touted its record breaking month:

We’re seeing lots of people buying from one to a handful of Kindles as gifts for friends or family, as well as many businesses and other organizations buying Kindles in large quantities for their employees or customers.

I don’t doubt for a second that 2009 was always going to be better than 2008 for Amazon. More people are finally realizing the benefits of owning an e-book reader, and Kindle is the market leader at this point. But B&N is probably encouraged with Nook sales as well. The device has been back-ordered multiple times, so people have embraced Nook for the holiday season. Now if only B&N could ship the device before the end of the year (you can always try eBay).

At this point, Amazon is just buying time by sending out multiple press releases a week to steal its rivals’ thunder. But sooner rather than later, the company will need to respond to Nook and other new e-book readers, so lets hope Amazon is listening to its customers and making the proper changes to make Kindle 3.0 better than ever.

Your turn: what features would you like to see on Kindle 3.0?
