1 in 4 U.S. Adults Own a Tablet or E-Reader?

People have been buying tablets and e-book readers like hotcakes this past couple of years, considering that the prices for these devices have been dropping. With the iPad and Kindle going for $499 and $79 respectively, it is not a surprise that both of these markets have been growing fast. A Pew Internet survey suggests that 1 in 4 U.S. adults now own an e-reader or tablet.

Pew surveyed two groups of 1000 U.S. adults for this research. Tablets and e-readers have been rising in popularity for a while now. But the Kindle Fire is so popular and cheap that it is speeding up the adoption rate. Of course, cheap e-readers such as E-ink Kindle and NOOK Simple Touch have played their role too.

Considering that Amazon makes a ton of money in content sales for each tablet sold, the company more than afford to keep its prices very low. According to estimates from RBC Capital, Amazon makes $136 in content sales for each Kindle Fire sold. Amazon has already sold millions of Kindle Fire units already. It would not surprise us if Amazon stayed aggressive with its prices for the foreseeable future.
