We have been waiting for color-screen e-readers for a couple of years now. We expected Amazon to have a color E-ink e-reader by now. That has not happened yet. Amazon, B&N, and other players in the market are focusing most of their efforts on cheap tablets though. Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs is still excited about color e-paper technology. We might still see a color e-paper e-reader in the near future:

We have a next-gen technology that’s much brighter, should be more cost effective and has a number of other good attributes. It is this that we will license out… I still believe in the technology. It’s always on and outdoor viewable. And one of the things that will be in the new technology is a better color gamut,

explained Mr. Jacobs. Mirasol technology is not only getting more cost-effective but it is great in power consumption area. When will we see one of these e-readers? That is not clear at this point. But the technology still has potential.
