Narr8 is the latest digital publishing company to adopt a freemium model and target Amazon Kindle Fire devices. The company is known for taking paper-based comics and digitizing them. Narr8 has motion comics and interactive fiction and nonfiction works. It has more than 700k users already. Its app is already available to iPad and Android users.

We are very excited to be launching on Amazon devices. As one of the leading e-book reading devices, we know the importance of being compatible to Amazon products, especially Kindle Fire

Alexander Vaschenko, the president and founder at Narr8, was quoted as saying on Venture Beat.

The approach is pretty simple here. The apps are free to try but you will have to pay if you need more features.
