Kindle for Tablets Announced

It’s official. Amazon is bringing Kindle to a device near you. Whether you own a Mac, an iPhone, or an iPad, Amazon aims to give you access to your Kindle books on them. Considering the buzz that Apple iPad and HP Slate have generated in the past few months, it was only a matter of time before e-book retailers such as Amazon jumped on their bandwagon. Amazon does not focus only on iPad. Apparently, it’s going after other tablets on the market as well. The complete list of devices Amazon is targeting has not been announced, but it seems Amazon will be targeting the most popular tablets.

This may be a big news for iPad fans, but it’s even a bigger boost for non-Apple tablets. HP Slate and other tablets don’t have access to all the apps that iPad owners will be counting on. That means they are going to need all the help they can get to compete with Apple and make a real fight out of it. For Amazon, this move is a win win. The company is going to encourage people to buy more e-books from it. At the same time, it may be able to convert some people to Amazon Kindle owners. We still don’t have any information on Kindle 3’s release date, but it’s safe to say that Amazon needs to deliver big with the device if it’s serious about the future of Kindle hardware.

Considering that Android tablets are on their way, Amazon is expected to announce its plans for Android in the very near future. Being involved with a fast rising platform such as Android can only help Amazon at this point. After all, if you can’t beat all your competitors, why not use them to sell more books?
