Kindle Fire gets CM7

It goes without saying that Amazon has done a decent job differentiating the Kindle Fire’s user interface from other Android tablets out there. But that still won’t keep people from trying custom ROMs on it. In fact, the Kindle Fire is the latest device to support Cyanogen Mod 7. This solution allows Kindle Fire owners to install a custom version of Android on their device.

CM7 for Kindle is still a work in progress. It does not fully support all the features Amazon Kindle Fire has to offer. With CM7 installed, the device no longer registers as a Kindle. This hack is certainly not for everyone. If you plan to try it, don’t forget to back up your tablet.
