Amazon is quite excited about its new phone. The Fire phone does look shiny and has a ton of features to help its users find, explore, and buy things. One of its most exciting features happens to be Firefly. This is a tool that enables you to quickly identify printed web and email addresses, phone numbers, QR and bar codes on your phone. You just simply press and hold the dedicated Firefly button to discover useful information and take action. How can developers use the Firefly SDK to improve their apps? Amazon has shared a few examples on its blog.
The team at iHeartRadio utilized the Firefly SDK’s built-in music recognizer and music database to identify songs. They built their own Firefly action to create iHeartRadio Custom Stations based on the artist and song that Firefly recognizes… StubHub used the Firefly SDK to let customers identify songs playing in the background and take various actions. Using Firefly’s built-in product recognizers, the team at MyFitnessPal has added custom actions to give customers nutrition information and to help them easily track their daily calorie intake.
