Kindle Fire and NOOK Tablet Get Rooted

Both Amazon Kindle Fire and B&N NOOK run a flavor of Android. We all expected these two device to be rooted by hackers. The process has been speeding up in the past few days. Hackers rooted the NOOK Color months ago to prove how awesome these cheap tablets can be. The NOOK Tablet has also been rooted too (see the below video). The instructions on how one can root a NOOK Tablet have been posted to XDA Developers already. Let’s not forget that the new NOOK is not completely unlocked. We will still have to wait for that.

The Kindle Fire has been rooted already as well. That means one can potentially change the software installed on the device. This allows Kindle Fire owners to add additional Android software to their device. Considering that the previous Kindles have been easy to hack, Kindle Fire getting hacked is not a surprising development. Amazon does offer a number of useful applications for the Kindle Fire through its Appstore. Rooting it may not be worth the effort for casual users.
