Amazon Goes After Google with New Amazon API

Amazon has done a brilliant job taking Android and owning it. The Kindle Fire HD runs Android but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the way it looks. Amazon has its own app store for its customers too (even though it does not have as many apps as the Google Play Store). Now Amazon is offering developers a mobile ads API. That will enable developers to put Amazon-based ads in their apps and monetize their work.

The ads appear on any Android device and not just Kindle Fire devices. But in order to get the ads, developers will need to include their apps in Amazon’s Appstore. This is a brilliant strategy that will attract more developers to Amazon’s Appstore and could bring even more titles to it. At this point, Amazon is offering competitive pricing for ads.

Google will certainly not be happy with the latest move by Amazon. It will be interesting to see how it will react to the latest development.
