Amazon: DVD Extras for E-books?

Amazon has been quite successful in the e-book market. Its Kindle devices are quite popular and have reached millions of homes already. Amazon does not want to just sell you e-readers and e-books though. That’s why the idea of enhanced Kindle e-books is not surprising to us. In fact, the company has been granted a patent (Patent #8478662) that describes a way to enhance e-books with supplemental material by publishers. You can think of it as extras included with each book purchase.

This idea has a social aspect to it. Readers will only see suggestions if they follow the creator of the extra material. It is interesting to note that Amazon has already implemented some of the ideas described in this patent. But our e-books could get a whole lot better in the upcoming months and years.
