Google Play Store on Nook HD+, Cybook Odyssey HD with Frontlight in Action

We already know that NOOK HD+ is easy to hack. The folks at XDA forum demonstrated how easy it is to root these new NOOKs a few days ago. The next logical step would be to install the Google Play Store on these tiny machines. That has been done as well. The instructions have been already posted online. They are not perfect but a proof of concept video has already been posted to YouTube. B&N could have made it harder for folks to hack its devices. But instead it has shared instructions on how to side-load apps on its NOOKs. It will be interesting to see what else hackers manage to install on the new NOOK tablets.

E-readers with front-lit displays have been making their way to the market in the past few months. Many of us have already tried the Kindle, NOOK, and Kobo devices with this feature. The Cybook Odyssey HD is another e-reader with a front-display light. The device has a 6 inch 1024 x 758 E Ink Pearl display, 2 GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. It uses HSIS to offer faster scrolling and is touch-enabled.

This e-reader is expected to be released to the market on November 20th. It will be available in Europe for now.
